  • Jump, Pizza, Jump!

You know what is fabulous for a 5 year-old's birthday? A warehouse full of moon bounces.

Sweet little gal. Looks like she fell into a Skittles commercial.

    Quinn!

    Hey there Delilah!

    Birthday boy in the ballpit.

    Uncle Joe and Trevor.

    Jonah and my little sis.

    Pizza at Tammy's!

Isn't this shark hoodie adorable?? My bff Alli made it for him.

I still can't believe he's five. It's been almost a month and I still can't absorb it. Seems like just yesterday he was like this.

    Awh. My little Pizza.

  • Thought of You.

  • 3. Sweet Lil' Scarflette

(I know, I know. I was supposed to post all these before Christmas. Epic fail. I'll still keep posting them now though - maybe you're like me and now that the holiday craziness is over you'll actually have time to make some of these. Anyhow. Sorry.)

This is another pattern I made up. It's also easy and fairly mindless so it's good to do while watching Christmas movies or internet tv.

You will need a pair of size 8 or 9 straight needles. You need to decide how wide you want your scarflette to be and plan on casting on in a multiple of 4. I used worsted weight yarn, cast on 28 stitches, knit fairly loosely and the scarflette pictured here is about 7-8 inches wide, 5 with it folded over as pictured. So cast on and then follow this stitch pattern:

    Round 1 - k1, p2, k1

    Round 2 - p2, k2

    Round 3 - p1, k2, p1

    Round 4 - k2, p2

And.... that's it. I knit for about 24 inches and called it quits. I folded the top 3 inches over, sewed on a big ol' vintage button on one side and a hook from a large hook and eye set on the other side. I close it around my neck by hooking the hook onto the scarf wherever it lays right.

    See? Easy peasy.

  • 2. The Band Guy Hat

    And for the dudes:

Incidentally, I found this picture of Dustin wearing the gray hat I made for him while looking for a shot of Nabeel (pictured on the right - hatless) in his blue hat... oh well. You get the picture. This is my ever-popular Band Guy Hat, named as such due to the fact that I have knitted these hats for many, many of my guy friends, almost all who are in bands. I think I've done something like 14 so far... Anyway, this pattern is my own, derived from the staple "Classic Cable" from the first Stitch and Bitch book. Here's the pattern:

You need: 16" size 7 or 8 circular needles and a set of the same sized in double pointed needles, a cable needle and a skein or so of some yarn. Experience has taught me that acrylic or acrylic blends for guy hats is ALWAYS the better idea as it's not common knowledge that if you wash wool, it will shrink.

Cast on 96 stitches. Join in a circle and do a ribbing stitch for about an inch and a half. Either k2, p2 or k1, p2... you know, whatever you feel like.

Then, get ready for some CRAZY cabling.

    Knit 6 rounds of k2, p2, k6, p2.

Knit 1 round of k2, p2, c6f, p2 OR k2, p2, c6b, p2. Or do some of both for cables that go both ways.

Repeat this 3 times for a more beanie-type, smallish head hat or repeat 4 times for a longer, more largish-head shaped hat.

    Then, knit 3 rounds of k2, p2, k6, p2.

Start your decreases. At some point in this process you will need to switch to your double pointed needles. You'll know when the time comes.

    Round 1 -  k2, p2, k1, k2tog, k1, p2 (repeat for the rest of the round)

    Round 2 and 3 - k2, p2, k4, p2

    Round 4 - k2, p2, c4f, p2

    Round 5 - k2, p2, k4, p2

    Round 6 - k2, p2, k1, k2tog, k1, p2

    Round 7 - k2, p2, k3, p2

    Round 8 - k2tog, p2tog, ssk, k1, p2tog

    Round 9 - k1, p1, k2tog, p1

    Round 10 - k1, p1

    Round 11 - k2tog

    Round 12 - k

    Round 13 - k2tog

Cut your yarn, leaving a good amount to stitch with and weave it through your loops while they are still on the needles. Pull the yarn through and weave the end into the hat.

  • The Parking Ramp Man

    I love this so much.

Seriously, when did my little brothers become so amazing?

  • Have yourself a little Zooey for Christmas...

Seriously, is there anything cuter than this woman?

    Love it.

  • Go do.

I never blogged about seeing jónsi.

This is a tiny-little-not-nearly-as-awe-inspiring bit of what me and Phil saw.

It was magical. Phil had seen them once before so he was slightly less insanely excited than I was, although I did notice the wild grinning I was doing was being equally matched by my dear friendy... I love music. I love it even more when I'm at a show with one (or more) of my favorite people and I can't stop smiling or moving and afterward we talk about the set over cigarettes during the long walk back to the car. And Phil is a supreme lover of music so it's especially fun to hang out at shows with him. He is also supremely awesome for inviting me and letting me have his extra ticket. Here's to music and friends and jónsi.

  • Birfday!

Little Pizza is 5. Well, he's 5 tomorrow, but today we celebrate!

He has wanted an accordion SO badly. We finally got one for him.

    He also wanted a recorder.

    Love you baby. :)

  • Are you still listening?

I happened upon this earlier. I showed it to Marky and we both laughed and agreed - this is us.

I confess; I am the one laying down.

  • Top five favorite knitting patterns - 1. Sloched Tuva

So, I haven't posted anything crafty in a really long time because, well, I haven't had time to do anything crafty. However, I was thinking of doing some knitting for Christmas and while going through my patterns I realized I have some really great standbys that have served me well over the years. I thought, I should really put these all in one place so I have them... so I'm doing that here in order to also share them with you fine knitting folk out there. I'm going to do five posts over five days of my favorite knitting patterns, all of which are either mine or available free on the internet.

    First, for the ladies...

The "Sloched Tuva" Hat. Available for free here. I love this pattern. It's so easy and it's so cute. And you just keep going for as much slouch as you want and then start decreasing. Seriously. Go look at the pattern. Ridiculous easy.
